The comparison checklist

Ask every company the same questions, and get the answers in writing. A company you can trust will answer all of them clearly.

What to compareWhat to ask
FeesWhat are the setup, annual custodian, storage and shipping fees, for year one and every year after? Flat or based on account value?
MinimumsWhat is the minimum purchase or account size?
PricingWhat is the price per ounce over spot for each product you'd recommend?
ProductsIs this bullion or a premium/collectible product? Why does it cost more?
Custodian & depositoryWhich custodian and depository do you work with? Is storage segregated or commingled?
BuybackWhat is your buyback policy, and what would you pay me for this product today?
ProcessHow long does a transfer or rollover usually take, and who handles the paperwork?
Sales approachCan I take time to decide? Will you put everything you've told me in writing?
Track recordHow long have you been in business? What do the Better Business Bureau and state regulators show?
Red flags with any company: promised returns, predictions of a crash to rush you, pressure to move retirement money the same day, vague answers about fees or premiums, or pushing high-premium products without explaining the markup.

What should I look for in a gold IRA company?

Clear, written answers about all fees, minimums, price per ounce over spot, the custodian and depository they use, storage type and their buyback policy, plus no pressure to decide quickly.

Are gold IRA fees the same at every company?

No. Setup, annual, storage and shipping fees vary, and some are flat while others depend on account value. Ask every company for a written fee schedule.
